Programs

The University of Kansas Medical Center School of Health Professionals Department of Occupational Therapy Education, provides swim lessons for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
This program is the only one of its kind in the region. Instructors are health professionals and health professions students. Faculty from the University of Kansas Medical Center provide guidance and over site of lessons.
Individual and small group lessons will be available to meet the children's learning needs. Traditional Learn-to-Swim methods are combined with sensory strategies matched to the unique needs of each child.

At the first lesson, each participant will receive a sensory assessment conducted by the staff from the Occupational Therapy Education Department.

Summer classes are held at the Fairway Swimming Pool. The Fairway Parks & Recreation Department partners with KUMC by acting as a "registration gateway" and is not necessarily associated with the lessons. Participants who register for this class are not registering for a Fairway Parks and Recreation program, rather they are registering for a KUMC Sensory Supported Swim Lesson program.
